Floating candles, each carrying its own story, stayed adrift throughout the night Wednesday on the pond at C of E Park in remembrance of babies and infants lost during pregnancy, childbirth, and infancy.

Oct. 15 is recognized as Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day, honoring the lives of babies lost through miscarriage, stillbirth, or infant death.

Emporia joined the worldwide remembrance Wednesday evening as Newman Regional Health held its fifth annual “Wave of Light” ceremony at C of E Park.

Every year, families around the world gather and light candles, creating a “wave of light” that connects those who have experienced such loss.
