Kirkmere Park in Youngstown showed off its new equipment at a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday morning.

The park has been outfitted with new playground equipment, restrooms and a new pavilion complete with picnic tables and grills.

Funds for these upgrades came from more than $10 million in ARP funds that are being used to renovate and build new community spaces across the city.

Youngstown Sixth Ward Councilwoman Anita Davis tells 21 News these upgrades are a huge step in bringing the city's playgrounds up to good standards.

"Our playground system was just deplorable, just absolutely horrible. Most of the playgrounds couldn't be utilized by the kids. They were so broken up, splintered, broken chains and everything else. And we knew we had to do something," Davis said.
