Candidate for council in Pa. city loses 11th hour appeal, is headed to state prison

SUNBURY — A Republican candidate for Shamokin City Council is preparing to serve a state prison sentence beginning Friday.

Joseph J. Leschinskie Jr. lost an 11th-hour appeal Wednesday when Northumberland County Senior Judge Charles H. Saylor refused to modify his 7- to 26-month sentence.

Saylor on Oct. 7 ordered Leschinskie, 41, to report to the sheriff’s office by 9:15 Friday or a bench warrant would be issued for his arrest.
