COLUMBUS, Ohio—Gov. Mike DeWine is convening the Ohio Redistricting Commission next Tuesday, though it still remains to be seen whether the seven-member body will pass -– or even consider -- any congressional redistricting plan before an Oct. 31 constitutional deadline.
DeWine issued an official notice Wednesday scheduling the meeting for 9 a.m. on Oct. 21 at the Ohio Statehouse.
The Republican governor is required by the Ohio Constitution to convene the redistricting commission at least once this month. As the Republican-controlled state legislature failed to pass a redistricting plan in September , the state constitution now gives the seven-member commission until Oct. 31 to redraw Ohio’s 15 U.S. House districts with the backing of the commission’s two Democratic members.
