DALLAS — October is national Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and Dallas police officials say they're increasing patrols in areas deemed hotspots and continuing community partnerships in an effort to reduce domestic violence offenses.

Dallas Police Deputy Chief William Griffith of the department's Criminal Investigations Division and Dallas Police Lt. Ashley Lee of the department's domestic violence unit provided an update on the department's efforts regarding domestic violence cases during the Dallas City Council's Public Safety Committee meeting Tuesday.

In terms of family violence offenses, Griffith said there were two more murder offenses as of Sept. 30, 2025, over the same date last year. There were 18 murder offenses as of Sept. 30, 2024, and 20 as of Sept. 30, 2025, he said.
