Human remains have been discovered in the search for Lucinda Miller, a 24-year-old woman who went missing in Victoria. Miller was last seen on October 16, 2022, after taking a rideshare from Melbourne to Neerim South in West Gippsland. She was dropped off at approximately 11:30 a.m. but never made it home.
This week marks three years since her disappearance, prompting police to initiate a renewed search. The remains were found on the anniversary of her last sighting, and authorities have stated that her death is not being treated as suspicious.
Around 60 individuals participated in the search effort, which began on Monday. The search area was approximately two kilometers north of the original location near McDougal Road. Police utilized dogs trained to detect electronic devices, hoping to locate Miller's phone, which has not been recovered.
Detectives have urged anyone who was in the bushland around McDougal Road, near the intersection of Whitelaw Track, to come forward with any information. Detective Senior Constable Michael Fowler mentioned that search crews were also looking for Miller's clothing and two vodka bottles she was known to have been carrying at the time of her disappearance.
Local police expressed gratitude to the Neerim South CFA, SES, DEECA, and the AFP for their support during the search efforts. The investigation continues as authorities seek to piece together the circumstances surrounding Miller's disappearance and the newly discovered remains.
