PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Rhode Island officials and Providence Public Schools leaders gathered for the groundbreaking of Mount Pleasant High School’s remodeling project on Wednesday.

According to PPSD, the 90-year-old building will be updated to serve as an early college and career academy, which will include “state-of-the-art labs” for robotics, engineering, and career and technical education programs.

As part of the $110 million investment, the outdated south classroom wing will be replaced with a “modern four-story addition.”

The project will also include an updated gym, auditorium, and cafeteria.

The renovations are part of PPSD’s plan to provide students with a new or “like-new” school by 2030.
