SPARTANBURG, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - Spartanburg City Council approved a multi-million dollar mixed-use project for downtown on Monday.

The project will redevelop the building that previously housed the Old Montgomery Ward Department Store but has been empty for decades.

The $18 million project is planned to have more than 7,000 square feet for retail spaces and at least 22 apartment units.

Construction is expected to begin in April 2026.
