SAVANNA, Ill. (KWQC) - Community connections to the Elkay Plumbing Plant in Savanna, Illinois, run deep.

The plant has been a fixture in the area not only for employment, but also leaving its mark with donations and community cookouts.

But it looks like that run is coming to an end.

Elkay Plumbing will be closing its doors in Savanna and will transfer 178 jobs to Lanark and Freeport through the end of December, the company said.

With a population of roughly 3,000 people, community members said the plant closing will hurt.

“It hits hard because we only have two factories left in town, so, losing another and there only being one left standing is a huge hit to the community,” Jessica Ervin, Manager at Manny’s Pizza said. “It takes families away from our district, so those people losing
