TEMPE, AZ (AZFamily) — A microburst that hit Tempe on Monday caused significant damage to Arizona Small Dog Rescue , leaving the shelter temporarily closed and struggling to recover.

Staff members say they saw the severe weather approaching and worked swiftly to bring the animals inside and keep them calm as thunder, lightning, and strong winds rattled the area. While no animals were harmed, the shelter’s outdoor facilities were destroyed.

Video captured during the storm shows just how intense the conditions became. “It got really intense, really quick,” said one shelter employee.

The shelter’s outdoor shade structure was destroyed. Metal poles that had been secured in the ground were torn out, and playpens and toys were scattered across the yard by the forceful winds.
