As a Sandwich resident, I am deeply concerned about the Town of Mashpee’s proposed septic treatment system planned along the town line—directly behind homes in Sandwich and within roughly 100 feet of our private wells. State environmental regulations require a 150-foot buffer from drinking water sources, yet Mashpee officials have stated publicly that they “don’t need to follow that and will likely be closer” because “the groundwater flows south.”
Compounding these issues, the proposed site sits on a drastically sloped property, which would place the septic system even closer to the groundwater table. Construction would require significant backfill and a retaining wall, raising serious concerns about soil stability, runoff and long-term environmental impact.
