BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - THE NEXT 24 HOURS: The dangerously dry weather is one of the primary reasons for the warm afternoons like we had Wednesday. You can expect another rapid improvement overnight with lows in the 50s. Plan for another sunny day Thursday with afternoon highs back in the upper 80s.

THE NEXT BIG THING: Forecast guidance is still locked in on a cold front arriving this weekend, with a good chance of rain overnight and into Sunday morning. The global data has trended lower on rain amounts in the past couple of runs. Hopefully, this trend won’t continue, but I still feel good about the severe risk staying west of Alabama. It wouldn’t take much wind to cause a few random power outages, especially with vegetation so stressed from the drought.
