Enrollment at Memorial University declined by 4.6 per cent this year compared with the fall of 2024.
Over 17,000 students are enrolled at MUN this fall.
The number of undergraduate students has dropped by 3.2 per cent, and the graduate student enrollment has dropped by 9.7 per cent.
The largest decrease is the number of international students, which has declined by 23.5 per cent year-over-year.
The university says that drop mirrors what is happening at other intuitions across the nation, with Provost Dr. Jennifer Lokash believing the decrease is due to international students no longer seeing Canada as a “destination of choice” for post-secondary education because of federal caps on study permits introduced last fall.
