A laboratory technician at Zomba Central Hospital has been arrested for allegedly stealing hospital property, including valuable equipment and consumables.

Zomba Police spokesperson, Inspector Patricia Sipiliano, confirmed the arrest of the suspect, identified as Ian Kambwala, but declined to give further details, citing the sensitivity of ongoing investigations.

However, a source at the hospital revealed that the stolen items include laboratory equipment, a printer, an uninterruptible power supply (UPS), and various consumables, altogether worth millions of kwacha.

Reports indicate that items had been going missing from both the Outpatient Department (OPD) and the laboratory over an extended period.
