A 23-year-old woman has been arrested and charged by the Australian Federal Police for allegedly sharing violent extremist content across multiple social media platforms.

In a statement, the AFP said the woman was expected to appear before Blacktown Local Court on Thursday.

A forensic review of the woman's phone revealed she allegedly possessed 43 files containing extremist material as well as a social media account which it is alleged she used to share materials online.

Police said the woman’s activities first came to light in July when the AFP received reports of a Sydney-based individual posting extremist material online and "glorifying martyrdom".
