Shots fired

A Nebraska State Patrol trooper returned fire Wednesday morning after a suspect shot at officers executing a search warrant in connection with a child pornography investigation in Grand Island, authorities said.

Justin Jelinek, 43, opened fire on troopers around 6:40 a.m. as they attempted to serve the warrant at a home near Oklahoma Avenue and Sunny Valley Drive, according to Nebraska State Patrol Colonel Bryan Waugh. After about 10 minutes of repeated commands, Jelinek voluntarily exited the home and was taken into custody without further incident.

He is being housed at the Hall County Department of Corrections with charges pending.
