GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - A Nebraska State Patrol trooper returned fire Wednesday morning after a suspect shot at officers executing a search warrant in connection with a child pornography investigation in Grand Island, authorities said.
Justin Jelinek, 43, opened fire on troopers around 6:40 a.m. as they attempted to serve the warrant at a home near Oklahoma Avenue and Sunny Valley Drive, according to Nebraska State Patrol Colonel Bryan Waugh.
“This was a frightening situation this morning in which our investigators were presented with a life-threatening danger,” Waugh said.
One trooper fired back at Jelinek, who then barricaded himself inside the home. Nobody was injured in the exchange of gunfire.
