PHOENIX — Resolution Copper donated $1 million to help with flood relief efforts in the Globe-Miami area, the underground copper mine joint venture owned by Rio Tinto and BHP announced on Thursday.
After heavy rains and flash floods hit the area in late September, resulting in a state of emergency and the death of three people, additional flooding from the past weekend and Monday caused even more damage to the community and surrounding businesses.
Some businesses in downtown Globe saw waters as high as 5 to 6 feet in height.
“Our thoughts are with our friends and neighbors in Globe and Miami who these devastating floods have impacted,” Resolution Copper General Manager Vicky Peacey said in a release.
