[KEOKUK COUNTY, Iowa] — A former Keokuk County Sheriff's deputy has been sentenced to up to 10 years in prison following an incident that left several children injured during a hayrack ride two years ago.

David Heady appeared in court recently, asking for forgiveness during his sentencing. In 2023, he had co-hosted a Halloween party that included hayrack rides for middle school students. Investigators reported that both Heady and David Brubaker were drinking and speeding before the crash occurred.

Heady faced 13 counts of child endangerment and expressed remorse for his actions that night. However, Tracy Pfannebecker, the mother of one of the injured children, highlighted the lasting impact.
