WASHINGTON (NBC) – Sen. Mitch McConnell was walking to the Senate floor Thursday for a vote when he stumbled and fell to the ground.
Luckily, he was able to grab the arm of the man walking with him, which softened his fall.
That man and a nearby police officer were able to help McConnell back to his feet.
The senator gave a smile to the camera and then continued on his way, apparently unharmed.
The 83-year-old McConnell has fallen before, which resulted in him using a wheelchair for a time.
Today, the senator was being asked a question about ICE by a volunteer for the “Sunshine Movement” when he appeared to stumble.
It doesn’t look as though the volunteer had any contact with the senator.
McConnell’s office has not responded to a request for comment from NBC News.
