PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Nearly 53 years later, the memory of what happened to him all remains the driving force for Martin Andrews, now 66.

He was an impressionable 13-year-old when he was walking along Caroline Steet in Portsmouth on a cold January day in 1973, a snow day with no school.

"A blue van pulls up with a man inside, with a big smile on his face," Andrews said in a Wednesday morning visit to WAVY. "He told me, 'I'm in trouble. I need some help. Can you help me out here?'"

Behind the wheel was Richard Ausley. By then, he had already been twice convicted of sexually assaulting a minor.
