Jason Varitek still isn’t officially signed to be a member of the Red Sox’ coaching staff in 2026, but the “likeliest outcome” remains him returning in the same role (or a similar one) to the one he served in 2025, according to a source.
Varitek, whose three-year coaching contract expired after the season, revealed during an appearance on WEEI on Wednesday that he was set to “have a conversation” on Wednesday with chief baseball officer Craig Breslow. Though details are still being worked out — contract terms, most likely — the Red Sox expect their former captain and catcher back on Alex Cora’s staff next season.
