BOSTON (WPRI) — Governor Maura Healey has appointed Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) General Manager Phillip Eng as the state's interim transportation secretary.

Healey's office announced Thursday that Monica Tibbits-Nutt decided to step down as transportation secretary and CEO of the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT). Tibbits-Nutt will continue to serve as an advisor through the end of the year.

Highway Administrator Jonathan Gulliver was also promoted to serve as undersecretary of transportation.

Both Eng and Gulliver will retain their current roles as MBTA general manager and highway administrator, respectively.
