DEARBORN, Mich. — Ford Motor Company is recalling approximately 59,000 vehicles across 10 models due to engine block heaters that may crack and leak coolant, creating a potential fire hazard.

The recall affects certain Ford Explorer, Ranger, Bronco, Bronco Sport, Maverick, Escape, Fusion, Lincoln MKC and Lincoln Corsair vehicles equipped with 2.0-liter or 2.3-liter engines and engine block heater systems.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration , the engine block heater may develop cracks in its solder joints, allowing coolant to seep into electrical components. When the coolant evaporates, it leaves behind conductive salt deposits that can create a short circuit when the heater is plugged into a 110-volt outlet.
