BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) - 6,000 pounds of military history can now be admired up close in Raleigh County.
The Raleigh County Veterans and First Responders Museum became home to the original anchor from the USS John F. Kennedy. The one-of-a-kind aircraft carrier was christened in May of 1967. It was used for decades in military operations ranging from the Vietnam era to the Iraq War.
The ship was the last conventionally powered aircraft carrier commissioned by the Navy. Army veteran and President with the Raleigh County Veterans and First Responders Museum, Ron Hedrick said we have a duty to keep this history alive.
