MIDDLETOWN, Conn. — Family and friends of the late Katherine Colon rallied near the Middletown Police Department Thursday night to protest its hiring of Connor Reinsch.

They say they are against Reinsch being a police officer in a city that pays police officers high salaries due to his involvement in a 2023 crash that took the life of Colon, a New Britain mother.

Reinsch was on duty with the New Britain Police Department early in the morning of Sept. 21, 2023. He was driving a police SUV on West Main Street when it struck Colon, who was crossing the street.

Reinsch was reportedly speeding without his lights or siren on around 1 a.m. when the collision occurred. He was on his way to investigate a burglary.
