Cadres of the proscribed ULFA (Independent) launched an attack on an Army Company Operating Base (CoB) at Koomsang under Kakopathar police station in eastern Assam’s Tinsukia district around 12:30 am on Thursday.

According to reports, at least three Army personnel sustained injuries in the attack. Sources said the militants used Under Barrel Grenade Launchers (UBGL) along with automatic rifles to target the camp.

Following the incident, security forces launched a massive search operation in the area to track down the attackers.

Kakopathar, once a known insurgency hotspot, had remained largely peaceful in recent years with no reported ULFA (I) activity. Thursday’s strike marks a significant resurgence of militant operations in the region.
