Sanaa, Oct 17: The chief of staff of Yemen’s Houthi rebels, Major General Muhammad Abdul Karim al-Ghamari, was killed in an Israeli airstrike in August, Houthi officials confirmed on Thursday. The attack marks a significant escalation between Israel and the Yemeni rebel group, even as a ceasefire remains in place in the Gaza Strip.

Al-Ghamari, a senior military commander sanctioned by the United Nations, reportedly succumbed to wounds sustained during the Israeli strike. Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz claimed responsibility for the operation, stating that the general died from injuries inflicted in the attack.
