The Lanarkshire former boss of insurance firm Aviva has died in a horror car crash after his Aston Martin veered off the road and struck a tree.

David Barral, who was born in East Kilbride , tragically died at the scene in Yorkshire on Tuesday after the sports car burst into flames.

The 63-year-old's family have paid an emotional tribute to him, calling him a "most wonderful man".

Police are investigating the incident and have appealed for any witnesses to come forward if they have information. Mr Barral was driving a grey Aston Martin DBX SUV when the crash happened on the A58 Leeds Road between Bardsey and Collingham shortly after 2pm on Tuesday, reports The Mirror.
