A busy road near Glasgow is closed due to an ongoing 'police incident'.

Emergency services rushed to the incident on the A737 shortly after 7am on Saturday. The road is closed in both directions from the Bridge of Weir to St James Interchange, in Renfrewshire.

The exact nature of the emergency hasn't been disclosed, however, motorists have been advised by police to "avoid the area".

A Traffic Scotland spokesperson wrote on social media: "A737 is closed in both directions between Linwood and Johnstone, this is due to a police incident.

"Emergency services are at the scene. Please use alternative routes where possible Please continue to take care travelling in the area.

"Updates to follow."
