Health Officials Confirm a Patient With No Recent Travel Tested Positive for the More Severe Strain

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has confirmed its first case of clade I mpox in an adult who has not traveled recently to areas where the virus is commonly found. Officials said the patient, who was hospitalized, is now recovering at home.

This marks the second case of clade I mpox identified in Los Angeles County and the second in the United States without a known international travel history. Earlier this week, the City of Long Beach announced a separate clade I mpox case.

Public Health officials said they are working with the California Department of Public Health and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to investigate both infections,
