Newsom Said Patricia Krenwinkel Continues to Present a Danger if Released
Governor Gavin Newsom has rejected parole for Patricia Krenwinkel, the longest-serving woman in California’s prison system and one of Charles Manson’s followers, convicted in the 1969 brutal murders of the pregnant actress Sharon Tate and four others in Benedict Canyon.
Newsom formally reversed the state parole board’s recommendation this week, concluding that Krenwinkel, now 77, continues to pose a danger to public safety if released. In his written decision, the governor said that “when considered as a whole, I find the evidence shows that she currently poses an unreasonable danger to society if released from prison at this time. Therefore, I reverse the decision to parole Ms. Krenwinkel.”
