OTTAWA — In a broadside against Canada’s national police force, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre has called the leadership of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police “despicable” and accused the law enforcement agency of “covering up” scandals involving Justin Trudeau’s Liberal government.
Sam Lilly, a Conservative spokesperson, later said by email that Poilievre’s comments reflect concerns about former RCMP commissioner Brenda Lucki and decisions not to pursue criminal investigations in two instances when Trudeau was found to have broken Canada’s parliamentary ethics law.
