A new weapons detection system at London Health Sciences Centre is being lauded as a success after identifying more than 1,450 knives since its introduction in the spring, officials say.
At a community update meeting Wednesday, LHSC supervisor David Musyj cited knives as the weapon most frequently detected by the system at LHSC’s emergency department entrances.
About 600 knives have been detected since the system went live at University Hospital’s ER entrance in April, while another 860 have been identified at the Victoria Hospital ER since May, Musyj said.
