(FOX40.COM) — Early Friday morning, a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle while walking in the northbound lanes of SR-99, according to the California Highway Patrol.

At 1:02 a.m., just south of Mack Road, a pedestrian stepped into the path of a Honda Accord that was traveling in the first lane of SR-99 northbound at 65 mph. CHP reported that after being struck by the vehicle, the pedestrian rested in the third and fourth lanes.
CHP said that the driver pulled to the right shoulder, waiting for emergency personnel. When officials arrived, the pedestrian was declared dead.
The driver remained on scene and released a statement to CHP. Neither alcohol nor drugs is suspected to be a factor in this incident.
