A retired judge’s investigation into Alberta’s health procurement practices has cleared the premier, cabinet and political staff of wrongdoing, but says AHS officials did not follow procedure.
Former Manitoba judge Raymond Wyant led the investigation and found that two AHS staffers were in conflicts of interest, but steps to address them were not taken. He made 18 recommendations to the province, including improving conflict of interest and procurement policies.
The investigation was prompted by allegations of wrongful dismissal by former AHS chief executive officer Athana Mentzelopoulos.
In a statement, Premier Danielle Smith thanked Wyant for his work, adding she was “disappointed” by the way AHS handled the contracts.
