Prosecutors have dropped criminal charges against a Tampa man accused of abandoning his dog along Interstate-75 during Hurricane Milton.

Officials with the Hillsborough State Attorney’s Office say there wasn’t enough evidence in the case to prove that Giovanny Aldama Garcia tied the dog to the fence in the rising floodwaters.

The case stems from the discovery of a dog that was found tied to a fence as Florida Highway Patrol troopers were clearing roads in Tampa.

FHP officials saved the dog and named him Trooper in honor of the law enforcement officer who saved his life.

Days later, Garcia was arrested.

But before he was set to appear in court next month, charges were dropped.
