AUBURN, Ala. (WTVM) - Auburn Police arrested an 18-year-old from Lafayette on Oct. 16 for assault in the first degree in connection with a May shooting that injured a 20-year-old man.

The arrest follows the July 9 arrest of a 17-year-old juvenile, also from Lafayette, who was charged with assault in the first degree in the same case.

The investigation began May 25 when Auburn Police officers responded to the 1600 block of Opelika Road for a report of shots fired. Officers found a crime scene and evidence of gunfire at the location.

Police were notified that a 20-year-old male had arrived at a local hospital with a gunshot wound from the Opelika Road incident. The victim was treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries and released from the hospital.
