Indian equity benchmarks Sensex and Nifty ended lower on Tuesday amid broad-based selling and the expiry of Nifty F&O contracts.
At the close, the BSE Sensex settled at 82,029.98, down 297.07 points (0.36%), while the NSE Nifty50 declined 81.85 points (0.32%) to end at 25,145.5.
Among individual stocks on the BSE, Bajaj Finance, Trent, Tata Steel, and BEL were the top laggards, while Tech Mahindra, ICICI Bank, Power Grid, and HUL emerged as the top gainers.
Across sectors, selling pressure was visible, with Nifty PSU Bank leading the losses, slipping 1.52%, followed by Nifty Consumer Durables and Nifty Media. In the broader markets, the Nifty MidCap 100 fell 0.75%, and the Nifty SmallCap 100 declined 0.89%, both underperforming the benchmark indices.
