MERRIMACK, N.H. —

New Hampshire is about $400 million short of what it needs for transportation projects it has in the pipeline, which has officials considering spreading out spending and weighing options that might lead to Granite Staters paying more.

The state is looking for ways to bring in more money to put toward the transportation projects, with options including higher tolls or an increase to the gas tax.

In the meantime, officials said they're planning to either delay or remove dozens of projects.

There are currently 88 projects in the state's 10-year plan, which officials say is "overprogrammed" by about $400 million. Transportation officials are looking at keeping 39 of those projects on track, delaying 15 and removing 34.
