ROCKY HILL, CT (WFSB) - A Rocky Hill resident got a minor abrasion on Thursday afternoon after a black bear made contact with them while they were resting on their porch, police said.

The incident occurred around 4:02 p.m. in the 800 block of New Britain Avenue, according to the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

The resident reported being asleep on the porch and waking up to find a bear.

Police said the bear immediately retreated and ran off toward a wooded area in the direction of Newington.

The person had a minor abrasion on their knee, but was unsure whether it was from a bite or scratch, according to Sgt. J. Ostroski of the Rocky Hill Police Department.

The bear was described as large in size and appeared to have existing DEEP-issued ear tags.
