HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — Early voting for the November election begins Monday, but hundreds, possibly thousands, of Texans are still waiting for their voter registrations to be finalized due to technology issues at both the state and county levels.

According to county officials, the root of the issue stems from a recent software update to the Texas Secretary of State’s voter registration system. They say the switch disrupted how the county systems communicate with the state system as it relates to new voter records.

Delay in verification process

In Harris County, officials said the biggest hurdle has been the verification step, where the state confirms a registration before sending it back to the county. That process has been significantly delayed.
