SPOKANE, Wash. – The first appearance in court has been postponed to October 20 for a man accused of shooting 38-year-old Derick Shafer.
32-year-old Andre Moore, , could not attend his scheduled appearance on October 17 because he was “ill,” according to his lawyer.
Ashley Smith, Shafer’s younger sister, was in court for Moore’s originally scheduled appearance and said she would be present for his appearance on Monday as well because she “has some things to say” to Moore and the court system.
Smith also said that she would host a vigil on October 19 at 5:30 p.m. at the site of the shooting, 600 S McClellan Street.
around 1 a.m. on October 12. When police arrived at the scene, they found Shafer dead inside a vehicle. He had been shot and bullet casings were found outside the vehicle.
