IDAHO – The Idaho Department of Lands issued a reminder that “closed fire season” will end on Monday, October 20. This change means that individuals planning to burn outside city limits will no longer need a burn permit.
Even with cooler temperatures and recent precipitation, the ground remains covered with dry fuels, increasing the risk of accidental fires.
To prevent accidents, the department provided some general burning guidelines. It is recommended to clear any flammable material within 10 feet of your burn pile. Additionally, keeping a water supply and shovel handy to extinguish any sparks is advised.
The department also cautions against burning during windy periods to avoid potential hazards.
Many local and county ordinances may still require burn permits year-round. It is advis
