Anchorage Mayor Suzanne LaFrance has issued an emergency proclamation to help support the state’s ongoing response to Typhoon Halong, which brought devastating flooding to Western Alaska.

The storm destroyed homes, damaged infrastructure, and displaced thousands of residents — many of whom have now been evacuated to Anchorage.

According to the municipality, several villages were deemed uninhabitable, prompting a coordinated effort to relocate entire communities to the city for safety and care.

Anchorage and its partners — including the State of Alaska, tribal health organizations, the Alaska National Guard, UAA, and the Red Cross — have already welcomed hundreds of evacuees over the past few days.

The emergency declaration gives the city authority to request additional state assistance
