Community members all across Alaska are stepping in to help those affected by the recent storm — the remnants of ex-typhoon Halong — which caused damage in Western Alaska.

One way to give financial help is through the Western Alaska Disaster Relief Fund. This fund was created by several local organizations working together.

Megan Cacciola said, "It's absolutely critical. It's the most flexible way to support the effort."

Donations are coming in steadily.

"We surpassed $1 million. And there's more coming in all the time," said Cacciola.

In Anchorage, Susitna Energy Solutions has been collecting much-needed items. People have been dropping off hygiene products, sleeping cots, and emergency blankets.
