PHOENIX — Teens and 20-somethings fighting the expansion of fossil fuels and data centers in Arizona successfully got a meeting with Arizona’s largest utility, APS.
The Youth Climate Coalition requested to meet with APS CEO Ted Geisler or a high-level executive this summer after Geisler announced APS was walking back the utility’s long-term clean energy commitments.
“The fact they did meet with us shows they do want to include youth in the conversation. It’s just a question of what kinds of conversations we have in the future,” said ASU student Shaela Patel. “They did not lay out substantial initiatives in the future.”
The coalition is asking APS to reinstate its goal to achieve zero carbon emissions by 2050 and to accelerate the closure of a coal plant in northern Arizona.
