UPDATE: Chattanooga police have confirmed new details in the drowning at Greenway Farms Quarry on Friday evening.

Field Training Officer Jacob Simpson says crews responded to a call of a possible drowning around 4960 Gannor Road while it was still daylight. Four adult men told officers their friend slipped into the water and never resurfaced.

A local officer from the Hixson area put on gear and entered the quarry in an effort to locate the victim, swimming about 60 feet out and diving roughly 10 feet down, but the attempt was unsuccessful.

Hamilton County EMS and the Chattanooga Fire Department arrived with boats and dive teams to continue the search. The victim’s body was recovered later in the evening.
