AUGUSTA -- Republicans on the legislature's Appropriations and Taxation Committee are calling for a public hearing next month to consider adopting certain federal tax code changes at the state level as well.

At a hearing today, republicans told listeners those changes would benefit workers, seniors, and some Maine families. It includes eliminating state taxes on tips and overtime, increasing the state standard deduction, a new $6000 deduction for seniors, and a new deduction on car loan interest.

They say these are all changes that passed at the federal level as part of the Working Families Tax Cut Act that went into effect earlier this year.
