With the government shutdown now the third longest in U.S. history and no end in sight, Gov. Wes Moore announced Friday that the Maryland Transit Administration will offer free rides to federal workers on commuter buses and MARC trains.
“We are going to do everything we can to support our people,” Moore said. “We are going to do everything we can to make sure that we are covering down for the federal government that is completely inept and can’t get its job done.”
Making the announcement at a resource fair for federal employees in Columbia, Moore said the offer will remain valid until the government reopens. Anyone with a federal ID badge can show it to the bus driver or train conductor to ride for free.
The federal government is Maryland’s largest employer. More than 269,000 residents
